Dr Benjamin Hunter

  • Lecturer (Political & International Studies)

Biography

I joined Glasgow in 2023 as Lecturer in International Political Economy. My interests centre on the political economy of global development and much of my research has focused on issues around health and development. Current research includes work on:

  • trends in the financing of global development and corresponding changes in sectoral norms
  • the relationship between private finance and global health; and
  • internationalisation in healthcare and the growth of the global healthcare economy.

Prior to joining Glasgow, I was Lecturer in International Development at the University of Sussex and before that Research and Teaching Fellow in the King's College London Department of International Development. I have experience working on research projects in India, China and the UK, and have worked with several multilateral and non-governmental organisations including the World Health Organization, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Population, Development and Reproductive Health, and Oxfam. I lead the Unsettling Healthcare initiative, am a member of The Collective for the Political Determinants of Health, and sit on the Editorial Board of Globalization and Health.

I hold degrees from the University of Cambridge, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and King's College London, and have been awarded research grants by the UK Economic and Social Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.
